London – Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says star striker Daniel Sturridge could return from injury in time for the Merseyside derby against Everton on September 27.

Sturridge will again be missing this weekend when Liverpool travel to West Ham because of a thigh injury, but is expected to return to full training next week.

“Daniel is doing well and is out on the field doing some work,” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

“He should hopefully be back training at some point next week and will have a chance for the derby.”

Liverpool received some good news when Martin Skrtel was passed fit for West Ham after missing the last few games through injury.

But full back Jon Flanagan and midfielder Joe Allen will be out for some time with knee injuries.

Flanagan had an operation to cure fluid on his knee and is set to be out for “a few months,” while Allen twisted his knee and will be on the sidelines for “two or three weeks,”. – Sapa-dpa
