Johannesburg – Farouk Abrahams has been appointed full-time head coach of Chippa United, the club announced on Tuesday afternoon.
“This was not a difficult decision to make from the chairman and the management’s point of view because of the stability Farouk has brought to the team,” club spokesman Lukanyo Mzinzi said in a statement.
“He understands the vision, type of football and the direction that as a team would like to pursue.”
The former assistant coach replaced Roger Sikhakhane on October 30, after Sikhakhane was sacked just eight games into the Premiership season.
Since then, Abrahams had been in charge in a caretaker role, before the league new-comers decided to offer him the full-time post.
According to the statement, Abrahams was handed a two-and-a-half year contract, which included the overseeing of United's development structure.
Abrahams became the third head coach in five months, after current Golden Arrows boss Manqoba Mngqithi was appointed in July, only to be replaced by Sikhakhane two games later.
Chippa United were second from bottom in the league standings, having claimed two wins, five draws and seven losses from their 14 fixtures.
While in charge, Abrahams had led United to a run of good form, which inluded a goalless draw with defending Premiership champions Orlando Pirates, a 2-2 draw with SuperSport United and a 2-1 victory over Platinum Stars. – Sapa
