Supersport United hitman Bradley Grobler reckons SuperSport United will be unstoppable under Gordon Igesund.

Grobler ensured that Igesund got off to a dream start at the helm of Matsatsantsa a Pitori after he netted a double in the 3-1 league win over Platinum Stars at the weekend. Grobler says Igesund’s pedigree and the quality of the players is going to compel SuperSport to go high up on the Absa Premiership standings.

“If you look at our quality and you combine that with the coach that we have, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be competing for titles. Gordon is a great coach with great experience and we are a quality team. There’s definitely going to be a difference in the team,” said Grobler. “Hopefully we have turned the corner with Gordon. We are enjoying ourselves. His training methods are good, short and intense. He is really good. He got us to believe in ourselves and all we need to do is continue working hard.”

Prior Igesund’s arrival, Grobler and his teammates were battling having registered just one win out of a five matches. Igesund’s arrival and the massive win at the weekend has injected much needed life into SuperSport, who have been on a downward spiral that led to the sacking of Cavin Johnson.

Grobler says players are determined to knuckle down and make the grade.

“It was frustrating for us to have started the way we did especially if you look at the quality that we have. As players we let ourselves, the club and the previous coach down. It took him loosing his job for us to get a wake up call. We don’t want to go down there again. If you look at the last game, you could see a change in our attitude,” said Grobler.

For sometime the SuperSport defence has not been impressive. Last season it was the weakest link and this season the defence was found wanting on a number of occasions. However Igesund is working more on defence. Grobler says the three-time champions are going to do well offensively.

“If you look at our team, we have got players that can score even from midfield. Scoring is not a big problem. Our challenge was in defence but I am not blaming our defence as we defend as a team. Hopefully we will do better,” said Grobler.

The former Stars and Ajax Cape Town striker was delighted to have opened his scoring account with a double this season.

“It’s nice not only to win but score as well. For any striker, getting the first goal is very important and can be difficult. I am happy that I have managed to score two. The hardest thing for me will be to keep working hard in whatever position the coach plays me in. I feel good physically. I just have to stay fit and work hard ,” said Grobler.

“I want to do as best as I can to help my team by scoring and creating goals. I would to get double figures this season. I want to break the 15 goals barrier. My highest was 14 so I want more than 15. I also want to do well and be a part of the national team,” said the 26-year-old, who has played twice for Bafana Bafana. - Pretoria News
