Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs players will be hard to catch in the new season, if what is said about their new outfit is anything to go by. It is described as the lightest jersey Nike have designed for Amakhosi.

Football outfits are about design, clothing technology, recycled material, lightness and performance innovation; and that just about sums up Amakhosi’s new jersey.

“It is important to have a new jersey. Our partnership with Nike is a reflection of our vision. We are constantly refining the outfit. This is the lightest kit the players will ever wear. This is about giving our players the best kit, so they can deliver for the team and their fans,” says Jessica Motaung, marketing director at Kaizer Chiefs.

Nike, together with Kaizer Chiefs, have also shown they have a heart for the environment.

“Design forms part of innovation. There is so much you can do with innovation. You take one kit, one shirt, a pair of shorts, one pair of socks... it’s made of up of 18 plastic bottles which are recycled,” says communication’s manager Seruscka Naidoo.

Kaizer Chiefs and Nike have been in a partnership for more than a decade, and the joint venture seems to benefit both entities.

“What really stands out for me is this: This partnership is more than just technical sponsors,” says Naidoo.

“We are more than just a kit provider.

“So, it allows Nike and Chiefs to forge towards the advancement of football in South Africa. We have been involved in football development programmes, like the CHAN tournament (which South Africa hosted at the beginning of the year), Man United Premier Cup, and league training programmes.”

The new jersey will hit the shelves on July 16.

Kaizer Chiefs supporters should be ready to part with at least R800 to own one.
