Pretoria – Former Bafana Bafana striker Phil Masinga believes Mamelodi Sundowns forward Katlego Mphela can still make the grade in Europe.

Mphela is reportedly wanted by English Premiership side Hull City to reinforce their strike force in the new season despite having had a dismal season in which he scored a measly three goals.

“Injuries took a lot out of Killer last season in terms of performance. When he came back from injury, he was thrown at the deep end hence he didn’t do well. I think a fit Killer can easily do well in the premiership. He can get four to five years in the premier league. He is an international player. He has got the experience,” said former Leeds United forward Masinga.

Mphela, a member of Bafana’s 2010 World Cup team, impressed during the tournament, attracting interest from a number of overseas clubs including Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers and England’s Queens Park Rangers, but nothing materialised.

According to Sundowns spokesman Kabelo Mosito, the club is yet to be approached by Hull City concerning the services of the man who has scored 23 goals in 47 appearances for his country.

“We have just heard about it. We have not been approached by Hull City. If there’s any interest in Killer, we will not stand in his way,” said Mosito. – Pretoria News
