Johannesburg – Premiership strugglers Polokwane City struck on either side of the break to hand Wits a stunning 2-0 defeat at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday night.

Neither side was accurate enough in the opening stages, wasting multiple opportunities, but there were some real chances created at both ends.

Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs did well to deny Tshepo Tema in the 10th minute, and Getaneh Kebede came close twice for the Clever Boys, with his first effort saved by Modiri Marumo and his second blocked by Tshepo Molala.

Puleng Tlolane eventually broke the deadlock shortly before the interval, after being set up by Joseph Musonda.

And the visitors stretched their lead a few minutes into the second half when Ugandan Boban Bogere also hit the back of the net, shortly after replacing Tlolane.

Essau Kanyenda nearly bagged another for Polokwane with less than 20 minutes remaining in the match, but Josephs got his fingers to it, deflecting the ball to safety.

The visitors bagged a morale-boosting win - only their second of the league campaign - after conceding eight goals in their previous two games, while the Students lost ground in a tight mid-table battle. – Sapa
