Johannesburg – Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter and midfielder Mandla Masango were named Premiership coach and player of the month, respectively, in Johannesburg on Thursday.

Baxter has guided Chiefs to a blistering early start this season, with the club on course to fulfil its objective of reclaiming the Premiership title which they last won in 2012/13, after finishing runners-up to Mamelodi Sundowns last season.

The in-form Masango was rewarded for his influential role in the Chiefs line-up, scoring three goals to date.

The Soweto giants have bulldozed their opposition on the way to a perfect start to their league campaign, winning five out of five matches, seeing them four points clear of their nearest rivals, Ajax Cape Town.

Chiefs restart their campaign, after an international recess, with a league clash against University of Pretoria on Saturday at the FNB Stadium. – Sapa
