Johannesburg – SuperSport United charged up the Premiership standings on Saturday night with a 3-1 victory over strugglers Golden Arrows in Atteridgeville.

While the hosts climbed three places to second in the league table, Arrows were handed their sixth defeat in nine games and remained second from bottom, flailing in the relegation zone.

SuperSport were lucky to get off the mark in the 10th minute when Bennett Chenene collided with Arrows goalminder Gumede Nkosingiphile, getting a knee to the ball to give his side the lead.

The visitors equalised through Philani Shange in the 20th minute, but they were unable to hold off a rampant SuperSport outfit in the second half.

Thuso Phala struck the bar shortly after the break, and United were rewarded for their attacking mindset when Bradley Grobler scored just before the hour mark to regain the advantage for the hosts.

Making a rare attempt for Arrows, Bongi Ntuli fired an effort too high, and Matsatsantsa capitalised two minutes later with a long-range strike from David Mathebula that stunned Nkosingiphile.

Mzuvukile Tom came close to narrowing the gap in the dying stages but he hit the woodwork, and the hosts held on for a comfortable win.

"I think we did well today, especially without the ball," said Mathebula, the Man of the Match.

"We were aggressive, won the ball back quickly and kept possession, which is good for us." – Sapa
