Cremona, Italy – Former Atalanta captain Cristiano Doni has reportedly admitted to fixing Serie B matches involving his own squad, although he says club officials weren't involved.

Doni was among 16 people arrested across Italy on Monday in an ongoing investigation into match-fixing and illegal betting on games.

After five days of solitary confinement, Doni was permitted to meet with his lawyer Friday and was then questioned by prosecutors.

The Gazzetta dello Sport reports Doni as saying he knew about a fix and bet on an Atalanta vs. Piacenza match last season, and tried to do the same for a game with Ascoli.

Doni has already been banned from football for three-and-a-half years and Atalanta – who were promoted to Serie A for this season – were given a six-point penalty. – Sapa-AP
