Munich, Germany – Real Madrid have approached Germany star Miroslav Klose and are interested in luring the veteran Bayern Munich striker to Spain to replace injured Gonzalo Higuain, his agent said Thursday.

The 32-year-old Klose has won 105 caps for Germany and scored 58 goals for his country, while netting 120 Bundesliga goals after more than 10 years in Germany's top flight for Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen and Bayern.

According to Spanish paper AS, Klose is top of Real coach Jose Mourinho's wish-list to replace Argentina star Higuain, who has undergone a knee operation and looks set to be out for the rest of the season.

Klose's agent Alexander Schuett told Bild: “There have been some inquiries from Spain.

“Also there have been some tentative inquiries from Real, but nothing more than that.”

Polish-born Klose has always said he wants to play for Germany at Euro 2012, to be held in the Ukraine and Poland, but a potential season on Real's bench could harm his chances of playing for the national side.

The transfer window closes at midnight on January 31. – Sapa-AFP
