Rafael Nadal says he wants to end this year strongly to make sure he is in a position to produce his best tennis in 2016.

The Spaniard has endured a difficult 18 months in his career, struggling to finish the 2014 campaign due to a combination of back trouble, wrist injuries and appendicitis, while he has failed to capture a major title this year.

The 14-time major winner has had to cope with spells of anxiety throughout 2015 which have not helped his cause, although he has still managed to win three ATP Tour titles to help him qualify for this week's ATP World Tour Finals.

The 29-year-old has shown glimpses of his old self recently, making it to at least the quarter-final stage of the last four tournaments he has played in.

Nadal is now hoping for a strong showing in London this week to make sure he goes into the winter break on a high, claiming his preparations for the 2016 campaign start at the O2 Arena.

"I'm happy to have qualified this year and the fact that I'm going to be here playing this week is good news so I hope to enjoy it," he told Sky Sports.

"The last couple of months have been positive for me. The intensity on the practice court and the calm that I feel now playing is completely different than a few months ago so I'm just enjoying again on court and my biggest goal is to try to arrive for next season in a good shape and a high level.

"This is my preparation for next season and I believe I am in the right way." - Female First
