Grammy award-winning R&B crooner John Legend was the first international musician to perform on The X-Factor South Africa in Durban on Thursday, a prerecording of which was screened last night on SABC1.
Singing his current hit, You & I, Legend had the audience transfixed during his performance. He is in the country for the South African leg of his All of Me tour.
Legend gave the remaining X-Factor contestants tips on how to make it in the industry. “You need to focus on what you do best, be great at it and surround yourself with people who only want the best for you and will work with you for you to get there.”
He also said that his All of Me tour was his biggest yet and that was because of the success of his song, All Of Me. “It’s the biggest song of my career. It’s so popular, and people love it, so we had to come to South Africa. I’ve been here many times, South Africa is starting to feel like home now.”
While in the country, he performed at a private wedding in Cape Town and toured parts of the country, including the Kruger National Park with his model wife Chrissy Teigen.
He performed at the Coca-Cola Dome in Joburg last night and will again tonight, before flying to Australia for his next performance.
