With two generations of dancers in her family, it’s no surprise that Vaishnavi Moodley is following the same path.

What sets her apart, though, is that she will be debuting with a Bharatha Natyam performance – at the age of 3.

The Pietermaritzburg toddler will be the youngest performer at the Natya Kalalayan Academy of Dance’s 35th anniversary celebrations being held at the Playhouse Opera Theatre in Durban on Saturday at 6pm.

Vaishnavi’s mother Yshrene Moodley, 32, a performing artist, said she was thrilled to be sharing the stage with her daughter.

“I also began dancing at her age and won a trophy. My mother (Kantharuby Moonsamy) always joked that the trophy was bigger than me,” she said.

Moodley said her daughter was set to follow in her mother’s footsteps – Moonsamy is the founder of the dance school.
