“No one would criticise Angelina Jolie, or Julia Roberts, for doing a sex scene in a movie, so why should anyone criticise me?”

This was the bold statement made during an interview with the sultry Westville actress Christine Moses, 23, who bares it all in the movie 31 Million Reasons, which will premiere at Ster Kinekor in Gateway, on Thursday evening.

“I am anticipating a lot of feedback regarding the sex scene, but I plan to take any negative comments in my stride.

“It is unfortunate that some people will criticise me because I am Indian, but I strongly believe that the Indian community needs to be more open minded and realise that this acting. And instead of criticising, they should be proud of me.”

Moses plays the character of Chantal Gopaul who is married to Ronnie Gopaul (played by actor Jack Devnarain) and is sleeping with his brother Jugs Gopaul (played by Rahul Brijnath).

The part-time model and actress said this was her first movie and she was thrilled to be working with “such a fantastic cast and director.”

So was she uncomfortable to go topless?

“Everything in the movie was done tastefully, and I am blessed with an amazing body so I was happy and comfortable.”

She added: “When I auditioned for the movie in October 2010, everything was transparent, so I wasn’t lied to about any scene. The sex scene is racy, but as I said it was done very tastefully.

“The lighting was amazing and there is no emotion attached to it. It’s just an act,” laughed Moses.

“Anyway, if my parents find it okay, then everyone else will just have to accept it,” said Moses, who is Catholic.

“God has done amazing things for me, and he has blessed me, so I don’t have to worry about what people think.”

The marketing brand and activation supervisor was just nine years old when SBV was robbed for 31 million rand in 1997, .

“I remember my parents often talking about it, and when I auditioned for the movie, my father was really pleased.” While she thoroughly enjoyed making the movie, she admits that kissing Jack Devnarain was “nerve-racking”

“My heart was racing. There was a scene where I had to throw him on the bed, and I was very nervous. After about three or four takes we got it right eventually,” she laughed.
