The national treasurer of the EFF, former MP Magdalene Moonsamy, tied the knot with her Mr Right, Pragasen Pather, on Saturday at Morrells Boutique Estate in Gauteng.

One hundred guests attended the Christian ceremony, including EFF leader Julius Malema and his wife, Mantwa Matlala.

According to Moonsamy, Pather, 39, a director at an insurance company, proposed last year while at a boutique hotel for dinner in Rosebank. They did not formalise a wedding date and two weeks ago decided to take the plunge. Moonsamy, a candidate attorney at a law firm in Pretoria, is known for being outspoken.

Asked if her husband was the same, her response was a simple “no”.

“He is the opposite of me. I am diverse and have a large group of friends.”

She described Pather, who she met three years ago through mutual friends, as being a pillar of strength. “I appreciate that irrespective of the controversies and perceptions out there, he has been there for me.”

For the main meal, guests were treated to French trim lamb cutlets and spinach ricotta and mascarpone cannelloni.

The starters were zucchini, spring onion and feta fritters.

For dessert they indulged in wedding cake and traditional sweet meats.

The night before the wedding, Moonsamy and her family held a thanksgiving.

The couple are planning to head for France for their honeymoon on Friday.
