Drew Barrymore's turbulent childhood has taught her how to be a good mother.

The 'He's Just Not That Into You' star - who is married to Will Kopelman and gave birth to their first daughter Olive three months ago - has revealed she learned a lot about the kind of mother she wants to be from the difficult relationship she had with her own mother Jaid Barrymore and wants her daughter to always know she will be there for her.

She told Oprah Winfrey's 'Oprah's Next Chapter' in a new episode that will air on OWN on Sunday: “I will be there at 3pm in the school line waiting to pick her up, that's first and foremost.”

In the emotional interview, the 37-year-old actress explained that broken promises are what upset her most growing up.

She said: “I think that's as a kid what I craved the most, was just believing that was going to be there. Being there in that school line. I think the world offers so many wonderful varieties of obstacles but that shouldn't be one for kids - is the worry that my parent won't be there.”

The actress always wants to be honest with her daughter and revealed she has already planned what to tell her about her own wild youth, during which she did drugs, got divorced twice, flashed her breasts at David Letterman on TV and also admitted she was bisexual.

She said: “I will absolutely instil in her that you cannot be ashamed of the journey that it took, you know, to get where you are if you are proud of yourself.”

“But I will also try to instil on her that I did not have guidance and that is why I lived my life that way. And although I am proud of it and I don't want to spend the rest of my life regretting it, there is no option for her to take that path because she has guidance.” - BANG Showbiz
