The second season of Big Brother Mzansi is back and themed Double Trouble, giving away that the contestants will compete in pairs.

On the first launch night, we saw the contestants walk in hand-in-hand as friends, lovers or siblings. They explained why they had decided to join and it was the same old story: the R2 million prize money or the fame. The second night saw singles go in blindly and they were asked to pick partners on arrival. So this a perfect storm for drama because relationships are always hard to contain, and it’s worse if you are in Big Brother Mzansi.

Having Lungile Radu return as the host of the show was a good move and the introduction of Dineo Ranaka and Kuli Roberts as gossip-mongers was refreshing.

DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?

If you are a Big Brother addict you know how things work. The contestants have to go in and suss out each other until they make a move on each other. But not in this game. By day two there was a lot of kissing and fondling – it almost felt as if Big Brother had ordered them to do so. It was disturbing, to say the least. Then again, who can blame them if last year’s winner, Mandla Hlatshwayo, got ahead by sexing Lexi van Niekerk throughout the season?

WEAKEST PAIR

Tiffini and Gino are siblings and the idea of them coming together was not a wise one. Of course, everyone has had a problem with everyone else by now, but the reality is this pair just can’t seem to stop fighting. The sibling rivalry is rearing its ugly head and soon it is going to weaken them against the rest.

CONFLICT OF THE WEEK

This one has to go to the verbal spat between the head of house, Ex, and Sibu. The fight started when Ex laid down the rule about tidiness. This included the contestants making an effort to clean up after themselves and making their beds. Sibu has elected himself to be a thorn in Ex’s side by declaring that he will not abide by Head of House rules. Then the harsh words followed. What Sibu doesn’t realise is that his bravado can cost him a place in the house because Heads of the House are basically Big Brother prefects.

TASKS THAT MAKE NO SENSE

To prove that the producers are hungry for action and will not wait for chance, weird tasks are given. Last week the contestants had to bite hanging donuts while facing each other. What happens when you eat the same thing with someone while standing opposite each other? At some point there is a good chance that your lips will touch.

EYES ON THE PRIZE

The oddest couple in the show has to be Sibu and Matt who are basically loving the fact that they are different. They might both need to take a shower more than others, but when it comes to being real, no one else comes close. Although Sibu has been defiant in some matters and Matt has had some fights, there is no couple that is giving us more to talk about than these two.
