Blanket Jackson changed his name because he was being bullied.

The 13-year-old son of the late Michael Jackson was given the affectionate moniker as a tot, but has recently decided to ditch the nickname and go by the name of Bigi instead because it made him a "target for ridicule".

A source said: "Growing up, his school mates have always been slightly mean to him because of their jealousy over who he is and going by Blanket made him a much easier target for ridicule."

The teenager - whose real name is Prince Michael Jackson II - decided to make the change last year when he started at The Buckley School in California in a bid to distance himself from the "stupid" name, which he reportedly "resented his father" for giving him.

The source told RadarOnline.com: "He always thought that the name Blanket sounded so stupid and resented his father for calling him that.

"When he entered Buckley he told them that his name is Bigi and that is what they call him."

Bigi - who now lives with his grandmother Katherine, 85, and cousin TJ, 36, along with siblings Prince, 18, and Paris, 17 - had the news of his name change released after a photo of his yearbook was posted online.
