London - Melissa Rivers has written a book in tribute to her late mother.

The 47-year-old actress has put pen to paper on a tome, 'The Book of Joan: Tales of Mirth, Mischief, and Manipulation', to share some comical moments she experienced with her mum - who died in September last year aged 81 following surgery complications - and she hopes people will find it funny.

She said in a statement: “In our family we always believed that laughter was the best medicine.

"I wanted to write a book that would make my mother laugh. I hope it makes you laugh, too.”

The book will be published by Crown Archetype and will be packed full of tales of the late comedienne's hilarious antics and "irreverent observations".

The news comes just three days after Melissa accepted a Grammy award on behalf of her mother for Best Spoken Word Album for the audio recording of her 2014 memoir, 'Diary of a Mad Diva', at the ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday (08.02.15).

While the brunette was delighted her mother had triumphed in the category, she admitted collecting the prize on her behalf was "bittersweet" about Joan's posthumous victory.

She said: "It's a difficult moment. It's a little bittersweet. She was nominated once for her comedy album, never was ever nominated for her other books and it's like, 'Now she goes and wins'.

"But it's wonderful how loved she was and how she's getting so much attention now and people are really understanding what she was about."
