Chris Brown wants a court to establish paternity over his daughter Royalty.

The 26-year-old singer is reportedly frustrated with Nia Guzman - the mother of the 13-month-old tot - over her child support and custody demands so being legally recognised as the youngster's father will give him the right to fight his former lover over the issues.

According to website TMZ, the 'Yeah 3x' hitmaker filed the documents in Houston, Texas, on Thursday.

Chris is currently paying $2,500 a month in child support, but Nia is seeking $15,000, an amount the singer insists is unfair.

He wants a judge to make a ruling on the figure, and expects it to be closer to his sum than his ex-lover has demanded. And the 'Loyal' hitmaker also wants the judge to set down clear custody and visitation guidelines as he claims Nia has been denying him the right to see Royalty.

Last weekend, Chris - who was convicted of assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 and subsequently endured a number of legal rows while on probation - paid tribute to his little girl as he spoke of how his life has changed.

He said "A lot has changed in my life, a lot of mistakes, a lot of lessons learned. The best thing, I'm most thankful for is my daughter.

"At the end of the day, love is love."

The 'Ayo' singer learned he was Royalty's father months after her birth and he and his on/off girlfriend Karrueche Tran split up in March after she found out that he fathered the child while they were together.
