Fifty Shades of Grey author EL James is loving the limelight after the success of her kinky books and the recently released film. But in the upper echelons of celebrity society, she still finds herself on the outside, looking in.

James is said to be desperate to secure a ticket to this year’s Met Gala, organised by Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. According to the Daily Mail, James is said to have asked her representatives to arrange a ticket for her at the exclusive event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, New York.

According to a source quoted in the story, James didn’t get an invitation from Wintour, but would love to hob-nob with the rich and famous.

“With the success of the Fifty Shades movie, she feels this is her moment,” the source said.

“She wasn’t invited by Vogue, so her representatives are asking around… to find someone who has a table to invite her to the gala.”

What must be galling for James is that Dakota Johnson, the heroine of the Fifty Shades movie, received a personal invite from Wintour after she graced the cover of Vogue’s February issue.

“It’s likely that Dakota will be going, and James wants to be at the gala, too,” the source added.

“Fifty Shades is her creation.”

For those who were not invited to the Met Gala, gaining entrance to the event is an expensive exercise. A ticket costs in the region of $25 000 (about R286 815), while those who would like to book tables can expect to pay upwards of $250 000. Considering that Fifty Shades has raked in over $400-million since its release on February 13, one would think James would be able to afford a ticket.
