Sofia Vergara's ex has always "dreamed" of being a father.

Nick Loeb is currently embroiled in a bitter legal battle with the 'Modern Family' star over claims she wants the frozen embryos, which the pair created in 2013, destroyed.

In a statement released through his lawyer Mark J. Heller, he said: "I have always strongly believed that life begins at conception and that every embryo is life on the journey towards birth.

"I created these two female embryos with the purpose of taking them to term and not destruction, because I have always dreamed of being a father."

The 39-year-old businessman also claims he had offered to "waive any parental or financial responsibilities" for the child from Sofia, 42.

He added: "I have previously offered to waive any parental or financial responsibilities or obligations on the part of my ex, and to

even give her the opportunity to be involved with the child in the future, should she change her mind. I take the responsibility and

obligation of being a parent very seriously."

Meanwhile, Sofia's lawyer Fred Silberberg has claimed the star "has never wanted to destroy her embryos".

Fred said: "[Sofia] has always maintained that they be kept frozen, a fact of which Loeb and his counsel have always been aware, despite Loeb's statements to the contrary."

Nick also alleged that Sofia had convinced her 44-year-old assistant to carry their child but two attempts, both of which took place in 2013, were unsuccessful.

The star offered her "44-year-old friend and employee" approximately $20 000 in gifts and mortgage payments even though her lawyer advised against it. Nick also claimed he and a doctor objected to the idea at the time.

A source said: "Sofia insisted on it. She said the assistant was the only person she could trust."

After the unsuccessful attempts, Nick persuaded Sofia to consider a surrogate agency, but the pair split up soon after.
