In theory, they always seemed an unlikely couple, even if the romance was taking place in the make-believe world of TV.

Perhaps that’s why popular Big Bang Theory characters Leonard and Penny managed to share an off-screen romance as well without anybody suspecting a thing.

In an interview with CBS Watch! magazine, 38-year old Johnny Galecki (who plays the bespectacled Leonard in the smash hit series) spoke abouthis relationship with co-star Katie Cuoco. They were an item for two years.

“We're dear friends, still,” said Galecki. “Kaley's not just an ex, she's a part of my life.”

In a frank interview, Galecki revealed that the reason they had kept their relationship a secret was because of the on-again-off-again relationship their characters have on screen.

“I just don't like to speak about it,” he explained.

“And not because I'm trying to be enigmatic; I just worry that it will conflict with people's acceptance of Leonard and Penny. I get the curiosity, but I don't want to distract from the story.”

Cuoco came clean about the relationship in a 2010 interview and spoke about the difficulties in keeping their affair a secret.

“We dated for almost two years. It was such a huge part of my life and no one knew about it,” she said.

“This is the first time I've ever talked about it, ever. It was a wonderful relationship, but we never spoke a word about it and never went anywhere together.”

Both parties claim their eventual split was amicable, which means Galecki will probably receive an invitation to Cuoco’s wedding. After a relationship with Henry Cavill, who plays Superman, the blonde bombshell recently got engaged to US tennis player Ryan Sweeting, and even staged a mock wedding on The Ellen show. - Tonight Reporter
