Johannesburg - Justin Bieber is desperate to wash off the stench emanating from his racist videos, and he’s hoping a New York bathroom might just do the trick.

That’s where the teen singer was baptised as he sought out divine intervention following the leak of two damaging video clips in which he can be seen making racist jokes about killing n*****s and joining the white supremacist group, the Ku Klux Klan.

Last week, Bieber made it known that he was undertaking some intense bible study as he prepared to face up to the demons of his past. Now the Beauty and the Beat hitmaker has gone one further, washing away his sins in a baptism at one of his friends’ homes.

According to gossip site TMZ, Bieber initially sought out a church to perform the baptism, but eventually settled on somewhere more private. The ceremony was conducted by Hillsong Church paster Carl Lentz, who informed TMZ that he had spent a week leading Bieber in bible study. Lentz is a hugely popular religious figure, with nearly 100 000 Twitter followers. One of those multitudes is Bieber, who tweeted Last September: “Amazing sermon at church this morning. Love you man. I broke down today.”

Meanwhile, Bieber’s mentor Usher released a message on Twitter to reiterate his support for his troubled protegé.

“As I have watched Justin Bieber navigate difficult waters as a young man, I can tell you that he hasn't always chosen the path of his greatest potential, but he is unequivocally not a racist

“What he was 5 years ago was a naive child who did not understand the negative power and degradation that comes from playing with racial slurs.

“What he is now is a young man faced with an opportunity to become his best self, an example to the millions of kids that follow him to not make the same mistakes.” - Tonight Reporter
