The Kardashians are masters at playing the media game and it showed as they expertly diffused a potentially embarrasing bit of gossip this week.
A US magazine had earlier run a story claiming that Scott Disick and Kendall Jenner were having an affair. Disick’s long-term partner and the mother of his children is Kourtney Kardashian, 19-year-old Kendall’s sister.
The article brands Disick a “corrupter”, claiming that he shed his “protective big brother” status after partying with Kendall last year. It further states that Disick and Jenner became close a filming a few Keeping Up With the Kardashians episodes together, with a production source quoted as saying: “After their partying episodes, he saw Kendall as an adult. A superhot and fun one at that”.
Adding fuel to the rumours is an Instagram picture in which Kendall poses very seductively in a mirror, while Disick looks on in the background.
The Kardashian family however have fought back, taking to social media to laugh off the claims. Khloe Kardashian was the first to stand up for her family, joking that it was in fact she who was having an affair with Disick.
“I'm really p**sed about this whole @KendallJenner and @ScottDisick thing!! Scott, I thought it was you and I that was having the affair!”
Going along with the joke, Disick replied: “Don't worry @khloekardashian you will always be my number 1.”
Even Kourtney, supposedly the scorned woman in the piece, couldn’t resist a dig: “Sisters after my man again?! Party!”
This, after the same magazine claimed Kourtney was no longer on speaking terms with her boyfriend and her sister, and allegedly said, “they’re dead to me”.
There was, however, an element truth to be found in the malicious article, when the writer claimed the affair would be good for the Kardashian reality show.
If there’s one family who knows how to turn an incident, or in this case a non-incident, into ratings gold, it’s the Kardashians. – Tonight Reporter
