Biting never looked this badass. Think fangs and then picture them on the hunky and rugged-looking Colin Farrell.

Nope, this is not the sparkling Twilight, Edward Cullen-type vampire we’re talking about. Instead, it is a rather scary, ugly and mean monster. Well, that is, when he actually morphs into one.

Farrell is our vampire Jerry (yes, Jerry), who moves into town as the next-door-neighbour of the Brewsters, Charlie (Yelchin) and mom Jane (Collette).

So no one sees Jerry at first, and sure, his windows are blacked-out, but that doesn’t seem to concern them either. Nor do they seem concerned when people suddenly start going missing.

However, Ed (Mintz-Plasse) is having none of that. He is a super- nerd, Charlie’s former best friend, thanks to the fact that Charlie decided to ditch their geek world by hanging out with the cooler people and now he’s Mr Popular Guy after scoring a hot girlfriend, Amy (Poots).

So Ed, who’s been spying on Jerry for a while now, is totally convinced of Jerry’s blood-sucking ways and tries to convince dear Charlie, who is not buying it at all because, “seriously, I’m too cool and you’re too lame”.

But, Ed mysteriously goes missing and Charlie finally picks up on the peculiar ways of his neighbour. When Jerry learns his secret is out, all hell breaks loose as mass destruction is unleashed upon Charlie and his family. So cue the sawing violins and steel your heart for the most unnerving of chase sequences.

Then there’s David Tennant as a famed magician, Peter Vincent, with a secret.

Director Craig Gillespie has created a battle between the believers and the sceptics, and Fright Night is a war for survival.

Set among the isolated homes of an eerie neighbourhood, the sense of dread sweeps over you in firm, cinematic waves.

The cast is solid in their delivery of this engaging drama. As blood squirts, metamorphosing into this bloodcurdling beast, it sends shivers down your spine.

The scene changes ease smoothly into each other with the plot becoming more engaging as the action unravels.

Although this movie is in 3D, this particular special effect doesn’t add any spice to the splatter fest, bar during one much-needed horrifying scene.

Fright Night will have you cringing with unexpected moments of creepiness and shock. Ferocious, frightening and fresh – you’ll enjoy.
