ROME - British actor Daniel Craig arrived in Rome on Wednesday at the start of a five-week filming session for the latest James Bond movie, Spectre.

Craig was greeted along with the Italian co-star of the movie, Monica Bellucci, by Rome Mayor Ignazio Marino and Italian Culture Minister Dario Franceschini.

Over the next weeks, Spectre's crew are scheduled to film in several Roman locations, including the Fascist-era EUR neighbourhood and the Renaissance Ponte Sisto.

Rome's cash-strapped municipality said it expected 600 000 to 1 million euros (about R7.93m-R13.21m) in filming rights permits.

Directed by Sam Mendes, the 24th film in the 007 franchise is slated for release on November 6. Parts of it have already been filmed in the Austrian mountains. - Sapa-dpa
