Demi Lovato insists it can be “very dangerous” putting yourself down and urges young men and women to “grow up feeling confident and empowered”.

Demi Lovato thinks it can be “very dangerous” putting yourself down.

The 'Confident' singer - who has openly battled with eating disorders and negative body image in the past - insists she does still get insecure but admits it can be a good thing as it helps her to stay positive in the end.

She explained: “I do have to stay accountable. Because there are people who look up to me for inspiration. There are times when I don't feel confident and I feel insecure about my body. I think what's important is that I walk the walk, I don't just talk the talk. I have to stay accountable.

“Actually it helps me sometimes. Because I can look in the mirror and feel insecure, and then I'm like, 'No, that's not what you stand for. You're confident, you're beautiful, you are enough the way you are.'

“[But putting yourself down can be] very dangerous. And it's important that young people don't get used to that. that they grow up feeling confident and empowered.”

And the 23-year-old beauty also revealed she chose to name her album 'Confident' as it best described how she feels at the moment.

She told Brazil's Papel Pop: “Confidence is something that everybody struggles with at some point in their life. And I'm now at a point in my life where I feel like i've overcome that obstacle to some degree.

“Some days I won't feel confident but right now I do and at this period in my life I've never felt more confident in my music and who I am as an artist and I wanted to name my album that.”
