THIS is one rollicking comedy you don’t want to end. With a sensational cast and breathtaking Punjab, Goa and Romania at its helm, this is more memorable than the first movie in the Singh Is King series which released in 2010.

PLOT

Raftaar (Kumar) is sent by his father to carry out an important assignment. Once he reaches Goa, his boss is so impressed that he is immediately appointed as the care- taker to the endangered Sara (Jackson).

Raftaar instantly falls head over heels for the English-speaking lass and hires an interpreter, Emily (Dutta), to help them communicate better. However, Sara, who is unable to realise Raftaar’s feelings, accepts a wedding proposal from another suitor.

VERDICT

DIRECTOR Deva has evidently raised the bar in terms of his film-making strengths. While most of the film is dependent on humour to keep it alive, Deva’s direction brings a sensational touch to a weak storyline. The usually over-the-top director keeps his action slick and classy, while opting for a more appropriate pace to unveil the story.

This movie is garish and allows the scenic locations to enhance its visual presentation. The production design has been carefully contrived, adding several layers of glamorous appeal to the light-hearted theme.

Kumar brings his best game here. Surpassing all of his recent efforts to take over the box office, he returns to the good, old charming character to win over the audiences. It works splendidly.

Thankfully, Kumar does not steal every frame and allows his co-stars to shine. Jackson commands a strong screen presence and wonderfully pulls off the action image. The director has cleverly designed the character around her weak Hindi-speaking skills, thereby giving her a more affable persona.

Dutta is at her entertaining best, making the most of her supporting character. Special mention must be made of Kay Kay Menon who delivers a uniquely dramatic, negative performance.

The distinctive Punjabi-flavoured music by Meet Bros Anjjan and others adds an authentic Indian touch to the movie.
