Bollywood beauty Bipasha Basu has started the year with a bang with Alone, where she takes on the role of conjoined twins in a flick that’s bound to get your skin crawling. Bollywood Hungama’s Joginder Tuteja spoke to her about the film

As someone who has acted in many horror films, how does Alone fare?

I believe Alone pushes the envelope when it comes to being a horror film in Bollywood. Also, for a horror flick in Bollywood, the music is quite good. I have to admit that the music is truly fantastic. Trust me when I say that it is along the lines of Jism, it is that good.

How are you looking at taking your career forward?

I have never denied the fact that I am a greedy actor. I want some meaty stuff for myself and to be a part of films that are entertaining. There is no point performing in a film which no one is going to watch. I am not looking for artistic pleasure here.

Yet again, you have a newcomer hero (Karan Singh Grover) starring opposite you. You seem to be giving opportunities to quite a few young talents to act opposite you.

From the beginning of my career until now, I have never really looked at who my co-star is going to be. I have had a really good relationship with all of them and it never really bothers me if he is a newcomer or experienced. As a matter of fact, I have worked in many movies with newcomers who have become stars. Whether it’s Neil Nitin Mukesh in his second film (Aa Dekhen Zara), Ranbir Kapoor in his second film (Bachna Ae Haseeno), John Abraham (Jism), Dino Morea (Raaz), Imran Abbas (Creature) or now Karan Singh Grover; I have never shied away.

What was it like for you to take Karan under your wing and mentor him?

I will tell you something, I started my career with Ajnabee where everyone (Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor) was a seasoned actor and I was a debutant. I had to find my way in. See, people can be supportive and sweet; that’s the job of a co-star as you have to be nice to everyone. However, when you are beginning your career, you have to find your thing in the industry. No one has to take anyone under their wing. Karan is bright; he knows what he is doing. On a professional level I didn’t have to tell him anything.

What did director Bhushan Patel have to tell you when it came to playing Siamese twins?

It doesn’t have a precedent among Bollywood leading ladies. While physically it was quite draining and I could feel the pain of girls who had to go through an ordeal like this, for me as an actress, it was also about playing two souls who are very different from each other. And then there is drama, romance and the supernatural. And the best part is that along with horror, it has become a deep love story. The crux is that of all-around passion where this guy (Grover) becomes instrumental to the love story. Bhushan knew what he was talking about. With him driving Alone it shaped up very well. – bollywoodhungama.com
