This documentary film tells the story of former South African Springbok captain and rugby legend, Joost van der Westhuizen (pictured). His dramatic fall from grace has been picked apart on the front pages of the nation he once served with such distinction. For the fleet-footed golden boy of South African sport, there was no escape from the clutches of a scandal that cost him his marriage and public image.

These days, he is tackling his biggest opponent yet, the crippling motor neuron disease that has reduced him to a shell of the athlete everyone remembers him as. His bravery in facing his demons head on, and this debilitating disease, is the focus of this documentary.

According to the press release, Glory Game is the moving story of “a modern day warrior forced to face his own human frailty. He shows us that beyond ambition, success and fame lies the true wealth of family and friends, and that within a ravaged body can surge the spirit of a survivor.”

Some proceeds from the film will be donated to The Joost van der Westhuizen Centre for Neurodegeneration.
