As the release of Kamal Haasan’s latest film, Uttama Villain, draws nearer, Indiaglitz.com and OneIndia.in look at what went into making the movie…

Uttama Villain, which stars Kamal Haasan in dual roles, is set in both the contemporary era and in the eighth century.

In an exclusive chat with Indiaglitz.com, the film’s director, Ramesh Aravind, revealed that the eighth-century portions were shot in Madhya Pradesh and Bangalore over 50 days.

Speaking about the title and the plot, the director who has worked with Haasan on many movies and is now directing him in Tamil for the first time, said: “In life, duality is constant – strong-weak, good-bad, god-devil… like that if there is a Uthaman obviously there will be a villain… and every one of us has both shades in us.”

Speaking about the songs, Aravind said: “One song has been completed and shot in Turkey. All crew members including the music director, Ghibran, have been selected very carefully and expressed happiness.”

Initially, it was believed that ace theatre personality cum dialogue writer, Crazy Mohan, would be joining hands with Haasan after a long time for Uttama Villain, to write the dialogue.

However, that was ruled out at the early stage of shooting and it was made clear that Haasan himself would pen the dialogue apart from the story and screenplay.

Aravind said that while Haasan has penned the dialogue, Crazy Mohan has taken part in the discussions and his input was reflected in parts of the film. He justified Haasan’s decision to pen the dialogue himself, saying that the film involves a huge spectacle apart from the humour.

The film includes segments happening in the eighth century and Aravind says Haasan has written the dialogue for these portions in the style of Sidhar Padalgal.

OneIndia.in reports that Uttama Villain is a dubbed version of the Tamil movie Uthama Villain and it is a tri-lingual movie also starring Jayaram and Pooja Kumar in lead roles which will be filmed simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.

The music will be done by M Gibran.

Uttaman, an eighth-century drama actor, and Manoranjan, a 21st-century cinema superstar, are at the centre of the story. Both characters are portrayed by Haasan.

Manoranjan’s mentor, who has groomed and guided him to the status of superstardom, is played by K Balachander. Oorvasi as Manoranjan’s wife and K Vishwanath as his father-in-law, essay pivotal roles in the film. The 21st-century superstar’s love interest is portrayed by Andrea Jeremiah. Pooja Kumar plays an emotionally disturbed princess to Uttaman’s eighth-century, persona. Nasser plays an overbearing dictator, Muttharasan from the eighth-century story. Jacob Zachariah, (Jayaram), and his adopted daughter, (Parvathi Menon), are critical characters. – Indiaglitz.com and Oneindia.in
