Carrie Fisher's famous 'Star Wars' bikini has sold for $96 000.

The iconic metal outfit - which the actress donned as Princess Leia in 'Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi' when she was captured by Jabba the Hutt - was sold via the 'Profiles of History' online auction on 2 October, with the unnamed winning bidder also receiving the matching collar, several chain links and a letter of authenticity provided by Industrial Light and Magic designer Richard Miller.

Bidding had opened on the item at $80 000.

Despite the high price of the costume, it wasn't the most expensive item to go under the hammer in the sale.

A miniature model of Leia's Blockade Runner - the first spacecraft seen in the 'Star Wars' series - more than doubled its opening price of $200,000 to sell for $450,000, setting a record for any 'Star Wars' artifact in the auction.

Carrie famously disliked the skimpy outfit, saying it was “what supermodels will eventually wear in the seventh ring of hell.”

The 58-year-old actress can next be seen playing Leia again in the seventh installment of the series, 'Star Wars: Force Awakens', which opens in December.
