NU METRO are starting the new year with a concerted effort to present specialised event screenings. They begin with a once-off screening of Queen Rock Montreal next week.

Recorded live at the Montreal Forum on November 24 and 25 in 1981, 10 years to the date before Queen’s lead singer Freddy Mercury died of Aids-related complications, this concert happened at the end of an extraordinary year for the band.

They had become the first band to top the US singles and album charts, and to top the UK singles, albums and video charts simultaneously. During their legendary tour to Latin America, they broke the world attendance record for a single paying concert when 131 000 Brazilians watched them play Sao Paulo’s Morumbi Stadium.

Plus, this concert was the first time a band had filmed an entire show in full cinema format in 35mm, and the footage has now been remastered to support the 4K format.

The film will be screened on the SceneXtreme cinemas at Nu Metro The Glen in Joburg and Menlyn in Pretoria with 4K Ultra HD image quality and 5.1 surround sound. It will screen on standard HD with 5.1 surround sound at Nu Metro Pavilion in Durban, V&A Waterfront in Cape Town and Walmer Park in Port Elizabeth.

Showcasing the theatrically entertainment performers in picture-perfect glory, the concert features many of Queen’s hits including We Will Rock You, Killer Queen, Under Pressure, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Are The Champions, Another One Bites The Dust and everyone’s favourite headbanger, Bohemian Rhapsody.

The two screenings will take place on January 14 and 20 at 8pm.

The next film on the Nu Metro alternative screening list will be the Broadway version of Romeo and Juliet, directed by David Leveux and starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad, for Valentine’s weekend. – Tonight Reporter
