Tollywood’s recent offering Manam, which is the last movie of Telugu’s matinee idol – the late Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR) – has touched the hearts of audiences and big shots in the Indian film industry.

Tamil superstar Kamal Hassan was bowled over by the movie and praised the Rao family for their attempt. Soon afterwards, Telugu actor Prince Mahesh Babu took to Twitter to hail them for producing a soothing family entertainer.

He tweeted, “ANR lives on… what a moment for the akkineni family…

“Manam is an outstanding film… my heart fills with joy when plots like these work… congrats to the entire team especially to director Vikram for his ‘out of the box’ idea! Pleasantly surprised by Akhil’s cameo in the end… the boy has amazing screen presence… a star to look out for in the future.”

When Hassan watched Manam at a special screening in Chennai, he was in tears.

The movie features the three generations of the Akkineni family – ANR, Nagarjuna, and Naga Chaitanya – in key roles. Shriya Saran and Samantha Prabhu play the female leads.

The film begins in 1983 with Radha Mohan (Chaitanya) and Krishnaveni (Prabhu) and their child Bittu. The couple die in a car accident. Bittu, alias Nageswar Rao, (Akkineni Nagarjuna) becomes a rich businessman. He encounters Nagarjuna and Priya who resemble his late parents. Bittu then meets Anjal (Shriya Saran) and Chaitanya (Akkineni). Nageswar Rao and Anjali resemble Chaitanya’s late parents Seetharamudu and Ramlakshmi, who die in a car crash at the same spot where his parents died. The rest of the film is about how Nageswar and Chaitanya reunite their parents’ reincarnation. The movie has a few twists.
