British actors Idris Elba and Naomi Harris will be in South Africa over the weekend to promote their film, ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’, The New Age newspaper reported on Thursday.

The two portray former president Nelson Mandela and his former wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

The film tells the story of Mandela from his childhood days in Qunu, Eastern Cape, to his time in prison on Robben Island and his struggles with the transition from an apartheid state to a democratic country.

Their tour starts on Saturday with a press conference at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg.

They would then meet fans at the film's world premiere at the Rosebank Mall in Johannesburg on Sunday evening.

The film also features popular local actors Jamie Bartlett, S’thandiwe Kgoroge, Terry Pheto, Thomas Gumede and Zenzo Ngqobe.

The film will be released in South Africa and the US on November 28. - Sapa
