Johannesburg - The biopic “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom”, based on former president Nelson Mandela, has made its debut in New York City in the United States, the film's production company Videovision said on Friday.

“The New York premiere marks the official launch of the film in the United States,” the film's producer Anant Singh said in a statement.

“Having Zindzi with us is very special as she represents Madiba in spirit.”

Singh was travelling with Zindzi Mandela, Terry Pheto, who plays Mandela's first wife Evelyn, and Tony Kgoroge, who plays apartheid struggle icon Walter Sisulu, in the film.

The film will be released in South Africa and the US on November 28 and 29 respectively.
