Three out of five. That’s what you give another Tyler Perry Madea movie, only because it is Christmas and some people believe it is a time of giving.

Which is not to say we are being misleading and letting you watch a horrible film, but isn’t it time Perry ( pictured) made a film called Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Funeral? We all, including Perry I’m sure, think about it from time to time but no one actually has the guts to say it.

I have lost count of the number of “Madea” films the man has made over the years, and they are becoming really annoying.

In the latest film, we see the old lady being persuaded to accompany a friend to a small town to surprise the friend’s daughter. While Madea is reluctant to go, it soon turns out the idea was not a bad one.

The two friends get more than they bargained for as there are many surprises in store for them.

Being a small town, everyone knows everyone else and so little sub-stories emerge.

Some people are keeping secrets, others are nosy; old relationships that have pottered along for years are re-examined.

You can almost see the twinkle in Madea’s eyes – she loves being involved in other people’s business and enjoys being seen as the voice of reason.

This is not a bad movie but if you’ve seen the rest of the Madea movies, you’ll know how this is going to go. Madea gets involved in most of the things that are going on in the town and irons out any issues.

She’s actually like a new sheriff in town, getting rid of the bad elements and taking care of the innocent.

But before you get too invested in the story, you can’t help but be reminded of Diary of a Mad Black Woman, in which Madea helped one of her nieces punish a man who was physically abusing her. You can’t also help but think of Madea’s Family Reunion, where Madea gets involved in every family member’s business in order to help them solve their problems. In Madea’s Witness Protection, she is once again the interfering old lady who helps kids learn to love school and make something of their lives.

The long and short of A Madea Christmas is that you will have the usual laughs that Tyler Perry offers but you definitely won’t be able to watch it after December 25.

If you liked all previous Madea films then you will like this.
