THE GOOD GUY
**
A gamble with love
FILM: As far as rom-coms go, this one is pretty pedestrian – barring a few poignant moments, that is.
I watched it for two reasons. I wanted to see Alexis Bledel in a role that’s poles apart from her characters in Gilmore Girls and The Sisterhood of Travelling Pants.
Also, Scott Porter and Bryan Greenberg make for delicious eye-candy.
It is set against the fast-paced world of Wall Street, where debauchery is as germane as the stock market.
Beth (Bledel) is a fun-loving young woman who counts her blessings at having found Tommy (Porter), a successful hotshot on Wall Street. He is charming, attentive, gorgeous and going places in his career.
At first, Tommy comes across as a seriously nice guy, especially when he decides to take on a naive Daniel as his protégé. While Tommy is suave, Daniel isn’t.
Despite their chalk-and-cheese personalities, they do share something in common – Beth.
Viewers will identify with the relationship woes of the characters, and Porter is fabulous as a two-timing bad boy.
Ultimately, The Good Guy won’t put you off to sleep but you might stifle a yawn or two.
