X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be one of the comic book movies that's not to be missed in 2016 - it is also one that I am looking forward to the most - and the official synopsis for the movie has finally been unveiled.

X-Men: Apocalypse will see Bryan Singer back in the director's chair as he continues on from the success of Days of Future Past in 2014 - I personally am thrilled that he is back at the helm.

The movie will introduce us to Apocalypse for the very first time and it looks like we are going to see Professor X and Raven reunite to try and stop this new evil.

We finally get to take a look at the synopsis for the film... and it really is promising to be one of the biggest X-Men movie yet:

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.

As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult are back as Magneto, Professor X, Raven, and Beast for their third X-Men film. Rose Byrne and Evan Peters are some of the other familiar faces as they are set to reprise the roles of Moira MacTaggert and Quicksilver.

However, there are plenty of new names to watch out for as Olivia Munn, Sophie Turner, Oscar Isaac, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smith-MacPhee, and Alexandra Shipp are all also on board.

Days of Future Past was one of the biggest films of 2014 and took over $748 million at the global box office - the movie was also met with critical acclaim.

We will have to wait to see how X-Men: Apocalypse performs at the box office, but it looks set to be one of the biggest films of 2016.

X-Men: Apocalypse is released 19th May 2016.
