LOS ANGELES — Pink Floyd, the 1970s rock band known for its lush musical textures and meditative take on existence, is working on its first new album in two decades.
The project is based on unreleased recordings made in 1994, according to a Twitter post by Polly Samson, wife of guitarist David Gilmour. The album will be the first new one from the band since “The Division Bell,” which was released that year.
“Pink Floyd album out in October is called 'The Endless River,'“ Samson said in a tweet. “Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright's swansong and very beautiful.”
Wright, a founding member of the band, died in 2008.
Pink Floyd achieved worldwide fame with the 1973 album “The Dark Side of the Moon.” The album had a place on the weekly U.S. Billboard 200 charts for 14 consecutive years.
Durga McBroom-Hudson, one of the band's touring singers, confirmed the upcoming release on her Facebook page, saying the recordings on the new album began during “The Division Bell” sessions as a side project.
“It was originally to be a completely instrumental recording, but I came in last December and sang on a few tracks,” McBroom-Hudson wrote in the post. - Washington Post
