Azealia Banks was met by police after getting off a flight after allegedly using a homophobic slur.

The '212' star tried to make a quick exit from her seat in row six when her Delta flight from New York to Los Angeles landed, but a French couple a few rows ahead were blocking the aisle as they pulled their luggage from the overhead compartments.

An onlooker told TMZ that Azealia tried to squeeze past the couple, but the man put his hand out and the rapper “went nuts”, spitting and punching him int he face and clawing at his shirt.

A flight attendant then told her to calm down and she lost her balance, fell to the seat before demanding to get her bag and leave and, in a subsequent row, called the airline staff member a “f***ing f****t”.

The co-pilot then came out to advise the police had been called, prompting the singer to run from the plane, dropping her phone in the process.

Officers spoke to the star and other witnesses at baggage claim, but the French couple decided not to press charges.

Azealia claimed she was hit in the face by the Frenchman and said: “I don't tolerate bitchassness and I don't tolerate men putting their hands on me.”

However, the onlooker insisted the man had just put his hand up for her to stop.

A spokesperson for Delta said: “We are aware of the situation and are looking into it.”

The 24-year-old star has also defended herself on Twitter, insisting she isn't homophobic and alleging she would have been treated differently if she was white.

I am bisexual. my brother is trans. My employees are all gay men. . Nothing else to say.
