Hollywood: A Story of a Dozen Roses

The Ultimate Save.

There is something playful about Jamie Foxx that makes it hard to take him seriously. Perhaps it is his comedy career that has had us view him as a joker. So when he releases a serious album like Hollywood: A Story of a Dozen Roses, things become awkward.

Foxx’s last international appearance was at the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight where he murdered the American national anthem. In fact, his performance was so bad, he trended on Twitter almost as much as the boxing match itself.

But no one doubts that Foxx is an amazing singer. In fact, this is same guy who played Ray Charles and aced the role. He is both a Grammy and Academy Award winner so he really has nothing to prove. Yet Hollywood: A Story of a Dozen Roses is a solid R&B album which opens with the infectious intro, Dozen Roses, Pt 1.

The guy who gave us hit songs like Blame It in the past returns with straight-for-the-club joints like You Changed Me (featuring Chris Brown) and Tease (featuring Pharrell Williams). He slows things down on In Love By Now and Jumping Out Of The Window which are obvious winners.

Overall, this is not a classic album, but Foxx is reminding us that he has immense range. – Munya Vomo
