Jodeci

The Past, The Present, The Future

***

Sticking to basics.

This is good news for all fans of ’90s music. Jodeci is back. Not just K-Ci and Jojo, but the whole group including Devante and Dalvin.

This album comes exactly 20 years after their last one and despite the long wait, it’s worth listening to. You will not find gems like Get On Up or Forever My Lady, but you will find something to entertain you. The one thing that the band got right is not trying to conform to the sound of today.

As you will hear on obvious hits like Nobody Wins, which features B.o.B, the group take you back to 1995. The song is about love that went wrong and both parties realising that they both lose if they break up.

Still on the the old- school sound, look out for Too Hot which features AV. The harmonies are, surprisingly, still intact, although some of the band members have lived the rough life, letting drugs overtake them. K-Ci is still the lead vocalist and does well.

For those who like ballads, there is some-thing for you, too. Jennifer is a piano-heavy joint that exposes just how strong Jodeci’s vocals are. They might not be Grammy standard on this one, but it is a keeper. – Munya Vomo
