SELENA GOMEZ

For You

****

Girl power for teens.

It’s always tricky listening to albums of heartbroken singers because the material is often melancholic. This is the first impression you get when you listen to Selena Gomez’s For You album.

The first track, The Heart Wants, talks about life after a good relationship gone bad. Given that she has had an on-off relationship with Justin Bieber, Gomez could be alluding to this. Be that as it may, you can’t deny that it is a catchy tune that will take you places emotionally.

To lift your spirits is the hit single Come & Get It which could easily be mistaken for a Rihanna track. Except for a few songs, Gomez manages to keep the tempo slow throughout the album. The album reeks of those “girl power” themes that teens around the world will love.
