I Want To Sing Gospel fans will be happy to know that the audio version of the third season is now available. The CD named after the show has all the top contestants belting out the 35 favourite songs that fans enjoyed throughout the season.

We caught up with Thokozani Nkosi, the creator and executive producer of the show, who told us what to expect from the project.

“We are very happy with the product because it meets the demands of the viewers of I Want To Sing Gospel. After a successful third season, just as we traditionally do with the show, the music from the show is released on a CD which is now on sale,” said Nkosi.

“What we do when making these projects is take the live audio performances from the TV show. It brings in the authentic feel that viewers got when the show was on and that can be heard on the album. The audio is then mastered in post-production just to give it the right quality,” he explained.

Given that the content was taken off the TV show, Nkosi warned that the songs will not be in the same format that we know.

“You will notice that the songs are not as long as they would be on a normal CD and that’s because the music was shot-recorded during the competition where contestants perform parts of the song to meet the TV format needs,” he said.

While the CD has just landed on the market, a DVD of the show is still in the works.

“Although the audio album is out, we are also in the final stages of completing the DVD of the same project, like we have done in the past. We decided to separate the two projects because we believe they serve different purposes and we did not want to get in the way of the other,” explained Nkosi.

You might wonder what projects like these do to help contestants jumpstart their careers in the cut-throat music industry. Nkosi felt that the initiative means a lot to the singers.

“These CDs have been successful in the past. They have paved inroads for artists to become autonomous in their respective careers. We are hoping for the same to happen with this CD,” he said.

I Want To Sing Gospel is a huge hit on SABC2, but we never know if it is coming back for another season and this time is no different.

“We have never had to worry about I Want To Sing Gospel coming back in the past. We usually work on a demand basis so we can’t say when we will be back on TV because that is always up to the SABC. In the past they have called us when they needed the show and we have been going steady based off that,” said a confident Nkosi.
