He’s a singer, songwriter, actor, rapper, dancer, recording artist and winner of many prestigious awards and accolades. He’s a mega mega-star. He’s the Grammy Award-winning Chris Brown and he’s bringing his Carpe Diem world tour to South Africa later this year.

Presented by local promoter Canoc Productions in association with Channel O, this multi-platinum artist will perform at the Coca-Cola Dome, Joburg, on Saturday, December 15, the Outer Fields, Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban, on Monday, December 17, and at the GrandWest Arena, Cape Town, on Wednesday and Thursday, December 19 and 20.

Carpe diem means “seize the day”.

From Belgium to Ireland and Germany to the Netherlands, fans have been speculating online since Brown posted an image with the words “Carpe diem” and “tour”.

Brown’s world tour begins in Norway on November 17 and goes to 12 major European cities – including Stockholm, Stuttgart, Basel and Paris – before touching down on African soil.

“The wait for South African fans is over!” exclaims Pleasure Letsoalo, of Canoc Productions, who has also brought Trey Songz, Lil Wayne and Rick Ross to the country.

“December is the time of year when Canoc Productions has produced two mind-blowing, sensational urban concerts.

“We are proud to be delivering yet another highly anticipated tour to our shores this December.

“Chris Brown is a big deal – so we urge all concert-goers to get their tickets ahead of time to avoid disappointment.”

In 2005, a show business natural, Brown – then 16 – emerged from the small town of Tappahannock, Virginia.

His career took off as his talent drew comparisons with his idols Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

His eponymous debut album sold more than three million copies – becoming certified double platinum – making Brown the newest American R&B sensation.

Brown, aka Breezy, earned two Grammy nominations as well as a nationally televised performance on the awards night in 2007, with Lionel Richie and Smokey Robinson joining him for a medley of the trio’s hits.

As Brown’s career rocketed, so too did his list of awards and accomplishments – three 2006 Billboard awards, a Soul Train Award, two BET awards, 2007 and 2008 Teen Choice trophies, three 2008 American Music Awards, four 2008 BET awards, an MTV Video Music Award, a 2008 NAACP award for Outstanding Male Artist, a 2008 World Music Award for World’s Best Male R&B Artist, two Grammy nominations, including that for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for ‘Take You Down’, and two People’s Choice awards.

This now-23-year old singer and songwriter has collaborated with some of the biggest names in R&B, pop and hip hop, including Juelz Santana, Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Justin Bieber, Busta Rhymes, David Guetta and Big Sean.

Brown’s number one hits include the platinum-plus status ‘With You’, ‘Forever’ and ‘Kiss Kiss’ – which features and was produced by T-Pain.

Last year Brown released his fourth album, ‘F.A.M.E’, with hit songs such as ‘Next to You’ (featuring Justin Bieber) and ‘Yeah3x’.

The album won a Grammy for Best R&B Album and won the Album of the Year prize at last year’s Soul Train Music Awards.

‘F.A.M.E’ also went all the way to the No 1 spot on the prestigious US Billboard 200 list.

In July, Brown released his fifth album, Fortune. Featuring the huge hit song Don’t Wake Me Up; the album has been topping the US lists.

Brown’s abilities extend beyond the concert arena and recording booth. He’s also had experience as a film actor.

He made his big screen debut in Stomp the Yard in 2007 and had a major role in the feature film ‘This Christmas’ and the 2010 crime thriller ‘Takers’.

Concert tickets range in price from R490 to R890 and will be on sale from 9am on Monday at Computicket.
