Gospel sensation, Fikile Mlomo, is back with a new album called uJesu Uyangenelela. On this offering, Mlomo gets personal by sharing her life with her fans.

“As usual, with my music I am motivating people on this album. From the beginning of my career, my concerns are with my fans and I feel that they need to know what I am going through through my music,” she said.

The project, she feels, is meant to resuscitate the low moral that some people are content to live with.

“There is a lot of death out there and by that I am not talking about physical death. There is a lot of spiritual death when people wake up and go on with their lives, but they are clueless about where they are coming from or going to because they have no relationship with God. That is what I am talking about on this album,” she said.

“I use my own experiences to draw inspiration on what to write and sing about. My life is not perfect so I take the encounters that I go through and I use them to write songs,” she said.

Music for her is not just entertainment so as a songwriter, everything she writes has to have a lasting effect.

“I know what effect my music can have because, at some point, I really needed to hear what I am now telling people. So some people healed me with words when I was low and now I am putting the same message of encouragement out there to anyone who might need it,” she says.

For the first time, Mlomo released this album with her own recording company, a move she feels is empowering.

“I wrote about my pain a lot and some of it came from the fight I had with my previous record label, the media not understanding me and people in general misunderstanding me. I learnt that you can’t satisfy everyone, but I am happy that now I am at peace,” she said.

So good was the album that even the Crown Gospel Awards nominated her this year.

“I haven’t been to the Crown Gospel Awards in a long time so I am happy to have been nominated again this time,” she said excitedly.

For those who want to see her in their town, you might have to wait a little bit: “There is no tour yet, but I am always travelling as we work with the demand that we get from those who support our music out there,” she said.
