GIG OF THE WEEK

Tony Cox

Open Strings, Kloof

(tomorrow)

TOMORROW night, music lovers are in for a treat as multiple award-winning guitarist, Tony Cox makes his way to Open Strings in Kloof.

The acoustic guitar legend will perform highlights from his acclaimed Padkos tour and his latest show, Songs of Sixty.

A press release states that the Padkos material is Cox’s mostly instrumental homage to great South African composers and includes songs like Juluka’s Impi, Bright Blue’s Weeping and PJ Powers’ Jabulani. The press release further states that Songs of Sixty sees a return to singing for the guitarist after a 16-year lapse and having turned 60 in January, the songs are a reflection of his life and loves from laugh-out-loud humour to darkly tragic. This, combined with his guitar skills that have made this fiercely South African musician indelibly linked to the instrument in the minds of his fellow countrymen, make for an unforgettable, world-class show from a truly unique artist. – Tonight Reporter

• Tony Cox will play from 1pm. Tickets R120; burgers R60. E-mail [email protected] to book.
