GIG OF THE WEEK

Gangs of Ballet

The Barnyard Theatre, Gateway (tonight)

FANS of the Durban band, Gangs Of Ballet, will be glad to know they can see the group perform at the Barnyard Theatre tonight.

They will perform material off their yet-to-be-released new album, along with their known hits. On the Barnyard Theatre’s website, it states that the five-time Sama-nominated and MTV Mama award-winning band members are each accomplished musicians in their own right. They have combined their individual musical tastes and styles to create a sound that is fresh. Their music, which boasts a vibrant energy and intriguing melodies, cannot be pinned to a specific genre, but rather experiments with a mix of alternative, melodic, anthemic, electronic and dance sounds.

Gangs Of Ballet seek to stimulate the musically-minded while also providing those merely seeking a good time with a good reason to dance.

In February, the band announced the departure of bassist Hardus de Beer to focus on his career as a chiropractor, and are now a trio.

They are working on their new album, set for release soon. The band recently performed as the supporting act for US band, One Republic’s tour in Joburg and Cape Town. – Tonight Reporter

l Tickets cost R130. Call 031 566 3045 or visit www.barnyard.durban.
